
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) reached a new market-capitalisation milestone on September 28, 2026, with listed equities valued at approximately ₦164 trillion at the close of trading.
According to market data reported by Nairametrics, equity market capitalisation rose from ₦163.655 trillion on September 25 to ₦163.999 trillion, a gain of about ₦345 billion.
The NGX All-Share Index also gained 0.21%, closing at 252,635.11 points, compared with 252,113.41 points in the previous session.
Trading Activity Surges
Trading volume crossed the one-billion-share mark, with approximately 1.025 billion shares exchanged across more than 61,000 deals during the session.
Fidelity Bank was the most actively traded stock by volume, accounting for about 528 million shares across 1,252 deals. Other actively traded stocks included Access Holdings, Chams Holding Company, Zenith Bank, GTCO, FCMB Group and UBA.
Banking Sector Leads
The banking sector was among the stronger-performing segments during the session, with the NGX Banking Index gaining 1.14%.
Overall market breadth was positive, although individual stocks recorded mixed performances. University Press, Critical Minerals Financing Corporation and ABC Transport were among the biggest gainers, while Fortis Global Insurance and Trans-Nationwide Express were among the decliners.
