Nigeria’s payment infrastructure provider, the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), says its National Payment Stack (NPS) surpassed 100 million successful transactions as of September 25, 2026.
National Payment Stack Reaches Major Milestone
The NPS is designed as a unified payment infrastructure for Nigeria’s financial services ecosystem. It is built around the ISO 20022 global messaging standard, which supports interoperability, richer transaction data, fraud monitoring and regulatory reporting.
NIBSS said the platform is being used across the financial sector, including commercial banks, microfinance banks, fintech companies, mobile money operators and payment service providers.
Focus on Faster and More Integrated Payments
According to NIBSS, the standardised payment rail is intended to reduce integration complexity and lower the cost of providing payment services.
The platform is also designed to support small businesses, merchants, agents and people who remain outside the formal banking system by improving access to digital financial services.
NIBSS Highlights Security
NIBSS Managing Director and CEO Premier Oiwoh said the milestone demonstrates progress toward building a broader payment infrastructure for Nigeria.
The company said it will continue working with the Central Bank of Nigeria, banks, microfinance banks, payment service banks, fintechs and other stakeholders to develop a secure and inclusive payments ecosystem.
